I think my problem with this book is in the beginning. The heroine met the hero in a dark library. She couldn't see him, and she didn't know him, but she had sex with him. He was a duke and she was the daughter of a duke. I just don't think this is plausible. Perhaps a stolen kiss would have worked better...

I thought the hero and heroine were separated far too long. I was ready for them to get on with it already. Then the heroine ran away to avoid meeting him. They ended up meeting under false pretenses, but not recognizing each other. I liked when the heroine was in the school, and I think she rose to the occasion, but the whole premise was hard to buy into. It just didn't make sense that she needed to run away from a duke who was looking for her. In this time time period, the way to saving your reputation was through marriage.

I liked the heroine, but I thought the hero didn't act much like a duke. It was an okay read, but not a page turner.

Romance novels are fun and I like to read myself to sleep with them. I have a degree in English from Vanderbilt University and had read all the classical literature but now, at age 85, I just like entertainment with no need to think too much. Evelyn Syfrett
I'm not really a 'Regency' reader and am very choosey with them so there are few Regency authors' books that I pick up. Kathryn Caskie is one of those few and I do enjoy very much reading her tales. Her Seven Deadly Sins series is terrific!
This is the story of Siusan Sinclair, one of Scotland's "7 deadly sins"; Siusan and her 6 siblings were raised by their Father who pretty much let them run wild after their Mother passed away. All of Scotland knew these 7 kids to be trouble, and so as a defensive mechanism against peoples ridicule and scorn they each embraced one of the 7 sins as their own. These siblings do the shocking and barely bat an eye; they're also very close and dependent on each other. Their Father, the Duke, has cast all 7 out with just enough money to cover the essentials, and threatening to cast them out permanently unless they reform and restore honor and respectability to the Sinclair name. Caskie's series is taking us through these siblings one at a time, this story is Siusan's who represents sloth.

The book starts at a gala celebrating Sebastian's recently becoming the Duke of Exeter, after the death of his brother. Siusan happens upon his planned tryst in a darkened library and is immediately mistaken for someone else. Sebastian is slightly inebriated when this happens and wakens the following morning to nothing but faint memories of the night before, and of course a goal to find this girl.

Siusan, immediately after leaving the library realizes she just *met* the Duke of Exeter, and knows she must hide herself in case he recognizes her. Siusan is doing her damnedest to follow her Father's order, not for the sake of respectability, but rather so she can stay with her siblings(and not be cast out, which aside from how close the siblings are to each other, she would go so she wouldn't jeopardize her siblings changes of restoring their Father's wealth/respect - no signs of her "sloth" like behavior).

Since Siusan and her Family have no funds, she must now hide herself while working for room and board. She does this at a girls academy, where one of her students is Sebastian's illegitimate niece. When Sebastian and his Grandmother catch wind of said niece learning about being a lady vs. true academics, Sebastian comes to inspect and runs into Siusan again. Their relationship blossoms while she's pretending to be Miss. Something or Another (sorry memory is bad!) and he's using a lesser title.

All this time Sebastian keeps thinking this is the girl from that night..this isn't the girl...this is the girl. It got confusing, just when i'd settled on him knowing she was the girl, the story line veers back to him not knowing. It was frustratingly confusing. This book either got rushed through the editing process and/or Caskie was all jumbled about how she wanted things to unfold and that came through.

Without revealing too much about the plot line, I'll tell you there's a major hiccup in their relationship when someone else wants to lay claim to the Dukedom by pretending another was the girl from that night, her and her pregnant belly. Siusan sheds her "sloth-like-demeanor" to confess and save Sebastian a life with this other woman, while at the same time knowing this would sever her chances with her Father, remove her from her home with her siblings, kill her respectability, and ruin any chances of Sebastian being able to offer for her. This all gets solved neatly and quickly.

I wish the author gave us a chance to fall in love with these characters, instead we read that it happened. I guess in between watching lessons on pouring tea and flipping a fan? Where they have little conversation. And she doesn't know him to be the Duke and he doesn't know her to be the mystery girl he's searching for? I feel like authors these days, at least in this genre, forget they're writing a book with characters that CAN come to life. Its like they're taking the same tried plot lines, changing the names, adding some character flaw (in this case, our sloth ridden heroine), a few details, and running full-speed ahead to the happy ending (which I admit is what keeps me in this genre!), but there's so much stuff in middle that's just lacking!

Anyways, my frustration with the genre doesn't change my rating...All in all this was your average over priced book, and not one I'd pick up again. Mostly this book left me wishing I could sell back my eBooks.
This story had a great beginning. It had a great idea of a story. It had the promise of some really likeable characters but the writing never was there to pull it off. There were story inconsistencies, misunderstood phrases leaving me confused over who knows what. The heroine was over done a bit. I really wish the writing would have been close to readable.
Lady Siusan was likeable although her logic was not always en pointe. I thoroughly liked Sebastian and found the Sinclair's supportive and funny. Would love to see what happens with the other unattached siblings the reviews for Icy and Sterling were not kind so I want to move forward to Grant and the other brothers. Overall, this was okay. Loved the ending
Stupid and inane
It wasn't the best book I ever read but it had a high entertainment factor that kept me interested. I enjoyed the unique siblings they actually loved eachother and weren't completely accepted by the ton. My favorite characters are Scotts especially with accents so this appeased me somewhat. I recommend it especially at the zero dollars this one cost me. Had I paid $5 I would have been fine with it. Happy Reading and enjoy.
